Jeffrey A. Bloch, D.D.S.

Dr. Bloch's father was a United States Navy Dentist; his mother a dental hygienist. It was probably inevitable that Dr. Bloch would end up committing his life to the dental profession. Those who have known him long are not at all surprised that the watchwords of his practice are old-fashioned service; honest, ethical, conservative care; and an emphasis on prevention.

Jeffrey A. Bloch, D.D.S.The eldest of four children and a High School All-American swimmer, he learned a great deal about responsibility, self-discipline and the value of hard work. Every day for years Jeff heaped five-and-a-half hours of training on top of his school work and family chores. His determination and resolve paid off at Saint Mary's College of California in the San Francisco Bay Area. There he was one of only nine to graduate with a degree in Biology-Pre Med; eighty-nine Pre Med majors started the program.

Dr. Bloch received his Doctorate from Loma Linda University's School of Dentistry in 1987. Upon graduation he was selected one of only three in the country to enter an advanced hospital-based General Practice Residency program at the US Naval Hospital at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. There he received an intense education in the treatment of medically-compromised patients and treatment of oral and maxillo-facial trauma. The program essentially put him years and skill-levels ahead of his peers.

Dr. Bloch was a member of the United States Navy/Marine Corps team from 1983 until 1997. During that time he served in 34 countries and received several distinguished awards as a veteran of close combat. After retiring from the service he worked in 41 different dental offices but was disappointed to find that he could only recommend three or four to his family and friends. Sensing the community's need for more honest, ethical and conservative dental care, he established Bloch Dental in late 2001.

Dr. Bloch has continued his training and education since leaving dental school by:

  • Serving as an instructor at Loma Linda University
  • Active participation in the Academy of General Dentistry
  • Coursework and membership in the Appliance Therapy Practitioners Association
  • Completing of over 1,100 hours of continuing dental education.

Dr. Bloch takes a special interest in helping patients who are uninsured. He also helps insured patients negotiate their way through dealings with insurance companies.

Yo Imai, D.D.S.

Dr. Yo Imai became an associate on the Bloch Dental Team in April, 2007.

Yo Imai, D.D.S.Dr. Imai is trained in the latest dental and medical techniques. Though a magna cum laude graduate from both UCSD undergraduate campus and UCLA's School of Dentistry, she desired even more training. She completed advanced training at University of Florida College of Dentistry.

Her professional philosophy is a simple one: "I enjoy developing a meaningful doctor-patient relationship founded on trust and respect, providing care to my patients and always with their best interests in mind. I find it very satisfying to make a difference in someone’s overall well-being by taking care of their mouth," she says.

Dr. Imai brings just the right combination of honesty, integrity, compassion, selflessness, and the desire to care well for our patients. Though here for just a short time, she has already become a tremendous asset to the team. Fluent in Japanese, she’s an added comfort to our many Japanese patients.

Do yourself a favor — come by and get to know Dr. Imai. Like us, you too will quickly come to respect and appreciate her commitment.

Yon-hwa Jordan

"I love working with patients and being affiliated with an honest, ethical and compassionate doctor," says Dental Assistant Yon-hwa Jordan. "I work hard to be a great assistant and enjoy learning new things every chance I get." Her attitude and enthusiasm are infectious.

Yon-hwa JordanBorn in South Korea, Jordan brings a slightly different perspective to our office staff. "I spent my first five years after moving to San Diego working for a dental laboratory," she explains. "Part of my responsibility was to visit various dental offices to follow up on crown placement to ensure the crowns all fit properly."

"I had a chance to see a lot of dentists in action, and jumped at the opportunity when a position on Dr. Bloch's staff opened up. I knew, after seeing his work up-close, that this was a doctor I could respect and be proud to work with."

Of her daily duties, Jordan says "I like the fact that you"re working with a lot of different people. When I go home at the end of the day, I always know I've helped people who were in pain and aren't any longer."

Pam Fuller

"Dr. Bloch's office provides a bright, fun and friendly atmosphere that's welcoming to all," says Office Manager Pam Fuller.

Pam FullerRelatively new to the dental field, Pam has a long history of customer satisfaction in every position she's ever worked in. Bringing her background in management to a new profession gave her a chance to stretch beyond the limits she had traditionally imposed on herself.

"I love working in an environment that's so welcoming to anyone who comes through our door," says Pam. "There's always something challenging to do here, something new to learn. The people are wonderful, and I look forward to coming in every day."

"Dr. Bloch is the BEST!" she enthuses, adding "I love spending time with my newfound family -- both in and outside the office. This is truly a place where team work and self-motivation are the keys to success."

A native southern Californian, Pam lives with her Pug dog Bow.

Jennifer Sengsouly

Our Registered Dental Assistant, Jennifer Sengsouly, was born and raised in Escondido.

"I had an after-school job when I was 15, working in a dentist's office," she explains. "When I started there I had a minor fear of going to the dentist. But seeing things from the other side of the chair really opened my eyes."

Jennifer SengsoulyJen came to Bloch Dental four years ago for a temporary assignment. After seeing the Bloch team in action, Jen decided she never wanted to leave. She quickly saw two things about Bloch Dental patients:

  • Many first-timers were very concerned about visiting the dentist when they walked into the reception area; and
  • These same people were very calm and relaxed when they left the office – even when they knew they’d be returning for more treatments very soon.

Jen watched and learned from Dr. Bloch, and saw his soothing manner with patients up-close. "I was impressed," she admits "and decided to try to copy him."

Currently a part time student, Jen is striving to one day become a dentist herself. "When I'm not working in the office, I'm working on my Biology degree," she says.

"I like working with Dr. Bloch," says Jen. "He challenges my skills a little bit more each day. Working with him is helping me grow professionally, and I’ve been finding my patience, compassion and desire to provide the best possible patient care have been increasing dramatically."

Jen currently lives in Escondido with her husband of 3 years and a spunky dog named Tina.
